Library

The library of the Lviv National Academy of Arts was founded in September, 1946. In 1994 the library was determined as a scientific unit according to the Academy statute and on the 28th of March, 1995 the Academic Council of the Lviv Academy of Arts resolved the principle of the scientific library where the context and basic directions of library work were described. In 2004 the Lviv Academy of Arts was granted the status of a national institution, so the library was named the Scientific Library of the Lviv National Academy of Arts. The scientific library is provided with the alphabetic and systematic catalogues and with card indexes of articles in periodical editions, of methodical literature, of theses, of abstracts, of inventory books of general fund, of booklet fund, of thematic books, of indexes of foreign literature from the funds of the library. The Fund of the library numbers 84875 units. An important step was made on the way to the new library of arts, cultural science and philosophy. It was organized for readers as an open fund with a free access to books and periodical editions. The library is completed with scientific editions, modern sources of art critic science and education, equipped with computers and protected by an electromagnetic system. Among the main trends of development of the scientific library there is a division of the library funds under the principle names: «Golden fund of art criticism», «Golden fund of cultural science », «Golden fund of philosophy», «New textbooks on art education», «The fund of the scientific periodical editions», «The fund of the art periodical editions». Thus the achievements of the library are the Art albums of Oleksander Arkhypenko, Oleksander Murashko, Ivan Trush, Roman Selskyi, Leopold Levytskyi, Ivan Marchuk, albums «The National Art Museum of Ukraine», «The Ukrainian icon painting in XII - XIX centuries», scientific editions «Kandyn-skyi. Selected Works» in 2 volumes, «Art and Philosophy» by Branskyi, «The Morphology of Art» by Habrychevskyi, «Comments on Art» by Hroys, «The Theory of Composition as the Poetry of Architecture» by Azyzian, «Three Centuries of European Fashion» by Vasyliev, «Ornaments of All Ages and Styles» and others. Among the new books and manuals on art education there are «The Art Education in Ukraine» by R. Shmahalo, «Ukrainian Art» in 3 volumes by D. Krvavych, V. Ovsiychuk, S. Cherepanova, «Design» by V. Danylenko, «Basics of Composition» by O. Holubeva and «The Style of Costume in XX Century» by T. Kozlova. There are also valuable collections of scientific editions on art gifted by «Fund - 2000» (Kyiv), the Institute of Art Criticism (Moscow), the Swiss publishing house «Pro Helvetia» and Balias' family who essencially enriched the funds of the library. The most precious of the periodical fund are the art magazines: «Ukrainian Art», «Fine Arts», «FolkArt», «The New World of Art». It is necessary to point out the library of electronic editions. Nowadays there are about 100 electronic books on CDs and electronic copies of edition. They contain an uncountable number of texts and reproductions on history of the Ukrainian and world culture and art. Even the names witness about the depth of filling: «The Encyclopedia of Material Culture», «The Culture of Ancient Rus», «The History of Art», «The Encyclopedia of Painting», «The Encyclopedia of Antiques», «The Western Art of XX Century», «5555 Masterpieces of Painting», «5000 Masterpieces of Drawing», «Romanticism», «Impressionism», «Modern», «Portrait», and others. The readers of the scientific library receive the information about the books, articles and other texts from the organized database: «The New Books», «The Articles on Culture and Art», from the composed annotated bibliographic lists, «The Art Critics Golden Book», «The Philosophy of Art Golden Book», Internet pages.

Hours of information, bibliographic reviews, book exhibitions, conferences of scientific bibliographic community and art studio «The Book Garden» on topics: «The New Library of Art», «The Golden Fund of the Library», «The New Culture science and Art Editions», «The New Manuals on Art Education» open the new sources in order to broaden one's knowledge and help to raise the professional level of the lecturers and scientists.
