The chair’s main tasks are: preservation and strengthening of students health and thorough physical development, improvement of students sports skills.

The chair’s main tasks are: preservation and strengthening of students health, promotion of their normal formation and thorough physical development, supporting of working capacity during the whole period of study; mastering of necessary knowledge on the basis of theory, methods and organization of physical training and sports; improvement of students sports skills; students assurance in necessity of regular going in for sports and physical training.

There are 5 lecturers at the chair: 2 associate professors, 2 senior lecturers, 1 lecturer. There are 4 masters of sport and 2 referees at the chair. The studies last for 6 years according to such kinds of sports as athletics, swimming, sport games (basketball, volleyball, mini- football, table tennis).

There are such sport sections at the chair: gymnastics, arm wrestling, basketball, wrestling, volleyball, Alpine skiing, swimming, archery, mini-football, chess.

Classes are conducted at the best Lviv sport bases: stadium «Ukraine», sport centre «Budivelnyk», swimming pool «Dynamo». Combined Academy teams are engaged in competitions with other Lviv higher institutions, and in different tournaments.

There is a tourist club at the Academy. Every year our students take part in mountaineering (Trostian 1230 m), (Hoverla 2061 m). Besides our students go on travels about historical places of Lviv, Ivan- Franko and Transcarpathian regions.

The head of the chair is M. Ohonovsky, associate professor, a fencing master. He graduated from the Lviv Institute of Physical Culture in 1971. He was the champion of Ukraine in fencing and a member of combined Ukrainian team. He worked as a trainer at CSS «Spartak» (From 1975 to 1983). Since 1983 he has taught at the Lviv Academy of Arts and since 1991 he has been the head of the chair.
